Special needs dog rescued in Arizona looking for a forever home in San Diego

Posted: Updated:

ESCONDIDO (NEWS 8) – A special needs dog with an auto immune disease that affects her joints, forcing her to use braces on her front legs, is looking for a forever home in San Diego.

Addie, a 4-year-old pit bull mix, was taken in by an animal rescue group in Tucson, Arizona after she was found dragging herself along the streets. Addie suffers from IMPA or Immune Mediated Polyarthritis, which affects her joints – making it difficult for her to walk.

About a year ago, Save A Bull in Arizona was able to gather $3,000 for Addie’s leg braces, but after a  year, she still did not have a permanent home.

Three weeks ago, San Diego's About the Dog rescuer Heather Howell saw Addie’s precious face. Heather connected with foster mom, Denise Culver in Escondido to help Addie.

Also jumping in to help Addie was private pilot, Scott Gregg. He flew Addie from Tucson to San Diego for free.

“She is really sweet. I know that she has been through a lot,” said Scott.

Addie is currently staying with a foster mom, Denise, in Escondido. But the foster mom, who is recovering from cancer, already has a paralyzed dog.

Denise and Heather said Addie is low-maintenance. She only needs her braces taken off at night, routine exercise, medication twice a day, and she is good with other dogs and families.

Denise is hoping that a devoted family will see Addie and fall in love with her - giving her a family to be a part of and helping Addie continue her medical follow-up care.

“She just needs a really good loving home, and she gives back everything that you giver her. It doesn’t take much,” she said.

Addie is a 4-year-old pit bull mix.
