Stoma Stoma: Trach and Tubie Life

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) - The Abrams family has found humor, joy and empowerment amidst a difficult situation. Owen Abrams was born at just 24 weeks and had to stay five months in the hospital. After battling for months, doctors said little Owen could go home.

However, shortly after getting home, Owen caught a cold and had to go back to the hospital. Little did the Abrams family know that their son’s hospital stay would be 784 days long.

During his time in the hospital Owen had a trach put in to help him breathe.

In the midst of the pain and heartache, Owen’s parents Darlene and Nick, turned to their art to bring a community together thus starting Stoma Stoma. Their t-shirts try to bring a sense of “normal” and humor to the lives of people with trachs. The t-shirts tell a story of kids and families that are on a similar journey as them.

Darlene, Nick and Owen Abrams stopped by the Morning Extra studies to talk about their story and how their shirts are inspiring people.

Some of the funny yet heart-felt t-shirts offered by Stoma Stoma are seen below.
