Tapping into secrets for better and more restful sleep

SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) - As most people know, we will all be losing an hour of sleep this weekend as the clocks get changed back to Daylight Saving Time. 
Did you know that after “springing forward” a study showed a 24% increase risk of heart attack that next Monday after the change? Car crashes also increased 9% during the spring time transition. 
There are a few tips that you can follow to get better sleep ahead of the transition.  

  • Start the transition of Friday night by going to bed twenty minutes before you normally do
  • When you wake up in the morning, try to get natural light straight away, to help reinforce the adjusted schedule.
  • Get the most of your sleep. Sleep in a cool, quiet space, avoid screen time, fatty foods and strenuous exercise too close to bedtime.

President of Sleep Data, Bretton Hevener, stopped by the Morning Extra studios to talk about the importance of good sleep and she gave a few more tips on how to prepare yourself for the loss of the hour of sleep.
