Professional football back in San Diego with Fleet home opener

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) - Professional football in San Diego is back! The San Diego Fleet will take the field at SDCCU stadium on Sunday against the Atlanta Legends.

The Fleet are looking to notch their first win of the season after they dropped their season opener in San Antonio against the Commanders.

The team had an offensive shakeup over the last week when coach Mike Martz benched starter Mike Bercovici for Philip Nelson. Nelson has spent time in Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals camps. According to the Fleet, the last time Nelson started a game coached by Martz was the 2017 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. The former East Carolina quarterback was the team’s MVP in the game.

This weekends matchup against the Atlanta Legends starts at 5 p.m.

It isn’t too late to check out the new team in town. Get tickets to Sunday’s game here
