Fourth annual Mac N' Cheese Fest features new recipes and local breweries

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) - Things got cheesy on set this morning as we got a look into the San Diego Mac N’ Cheese Fest happening Oct. 27 at Waterfront Park.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. guests will be able to snack on a variety of mac and cheese recipes and beer testers. This year there are 18 restaurants and 10 local breweries taking part in the event, so come with an empty stomach. After trying all the cheesy goodness that the festival has to offer, guests will be able to vote on their favorite recipe.

Last year’s winner, The Smoking Gun, stopped by the studio on Monday to share their newest mac and cheese recipe, the cheesesteak mac and cheese. They plan to release it before the event, although Saturday will be the first time many will try it. The new recipe features mac and cheese topped with sirloin steak, chilis and peppers, and onions, which is a spin off of last year’s winning pulled pork mac and cheese.

Although mac and cheese is known as a food for the little ones, this event is a 21 and older only event, allowing the adults to be kids for the day. The festival will have lawn games and live judging to vote for the best gourmet mac and cheese in town. With 2,000 people expected to attend tickets are selling fast. To get your tickets before they sell out and to get more information on the restaurants participating visit the San Diego Mac N’ Cheese Fest website.
