SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) — Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum recording artist and actress Jordin Sparks is helping launch "Generation S," an inspiring project aiming to uncover and share real-world sickle cell stories.

Jordin lost her 16-year-old step-sister Bryanna to the disease earlier this year, and now, she's working to raise awareness.

Jordin Sparks along with Dr. Biree Andemariam spoke with Morning Extra about the disease and its impact on patients and their friends and families.

Dr. Andemariam treats sickle cell disease and is the director of the New England Sickle Cell Institute and Chief Medical Officer on the board of directors for the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America.
