Pooch Prom raises awareness about rescue animals

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) – Dogs and their owners on Thursday night dressed up in their best evening wear for a very special event in Mission Valley - The Animal Pad’s “Pooch Prom.”

The non-profit began in 2010 by helping dogs in kill shelters in Southern California, but they exclusively rescue Mexican street dogs.

Thursday night’s “Pooch Prom” helps benefit The Animal Pad. This past year, the non-profit has helped rescue over 20 dogs from Mexico and fully paid veterinarian bills totaling over $10,000.

“We cannot do what we do without community support. Everyone I have talked to is like, ‘oh this is the best [event] ever,'” said Stephanie Nisan.

Visit The Animal Pad’s website to learn more about adopting animals or donate a contribution.
