Sleepless in San Diego

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Rescue Mission is celebrating its 11th Sleepless San Diego with a service day and sleepless night.

The Rescue Mission has partnered with the YMCA Peninsula, The Food Bank, First Presbyterian Church, New Vision Christian Fellowship and the Downtown Fellowship to run several service sites on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The service opportunities will include feeding the homeless, cleaning community park areas, helping with the elderly, church beautification and more.

Once day-of-service projects have been completed, participants will be invited to a Sleepless night at Liberty Station at 4 p.m.

Participants can come for the evening activities only. Those who wish to sleep over will be able to choose to sleep on a cot, cardboard, or plastic sheeting to gain a greater appreciation of the homeless condition.

San Diego now has the fourth largest homeless population in the country and every night, 10,000 men, women and children go to sleep on the streets of San Diego.
