A Wake Forest University basketball coach has been charged in connection with the death of tourist who mistook his SUV for an Uber.

Jamill Jones was charged with misdemeanor assault Thursday in connection with the death of Sabor Szabo over the weekend. He pleaded not guilty.

“The court made the proper ruling with the charges, and the district attorney’s office made the proper ruling with the charges,” Jones’ lawyer, Alain Massena, said.

Szabo, 35, was reportedly trying to return to his brother’s Long Island City hotel room in the early hours of Sunday morning with a dead phone battery when he knocked on the window of a parked SUV on 29th Street near 41st Ave.

Jones allegedly stepped out of the truck and, “following a confrontation,” punched Szabo, who fell back and hit his head on the concrete sidewalk.

Sandor, who may have been intoxicated at the time, was transported the hospital for treatment but never regained consciousness. He died earlier this week.

Jones’ lawyer also they send their “deepest condolences and sympathies” to the Szabo family.

Jones was released without bail.
