How steroid shots & surgery are becoming nearly obsolete for many knee pain sufferers

The Fast Emerging Field of Interventional Orthopedics Is Filling The Void That Exists Between Conservative Medical Care and Traditional Knee Surgical Procedures, Thanks In Large Part To A Southern California Based Non-Surgical Medical Team.

Chronic knee pain can be debilitating. It can wreak havoc on one’s life and well-being. What may have started out as a small ache or light twinge in your 30’s or 40’s, which was easily overcome by popping a few over-the-counter pain pills or anti-inflammatory meds, can ultimately give rise to significant physiological joint dysfunction and structural deformation of the bones, cartilage and ligaments with each passing year.

The traditional orthopedic approach to treating knee pain, caused by arthritis and injury, for decades has been to control pain through conservative methods, beginning with medications and next physical therapy. When conservative measures don’t work, doctors prescribe steroid injections, and lastly, arthroscopic or more invasive surgical procedures, such as Total Knee Replacement commonly used to treat Bone on Bone Knee Arthritis.

The challenge for hundreds of thousands of chronic knee pain sufferers is that they are being subjected to arthroscopic knee surgeries, where studies have shown these same procedures can actually accelerate Arthritis and lead to Total Joint Replacement Surgery. What’s more is that most doctors continue to perform these surgeries in spite of what the research is showing.

This has created a void that exists between conservative treatments and surgery. This has given rise to the emerging field of “Interventional Orthopedics.” Interventional Orthopedics requires the skill level of properly diagnosing those things that are actually causing the pain. MRI’s may show bone spurs, holes in the cartilage and meniscus tears, but these things may not be the sole cause of knee pain. Far too many doctors rely on these findings alone. This has led to an epidemic of post-surgical knee pain because many knee surgeries are unnecessary and don’t fix the actual underlying problem.

Interventional Orthopedics involves the gentle aspiration of a patient’s own healing cells, in the form of Marrow Derived MSC’s also referred to as Medicinal Signaling Cells. These MSC’s are then concentrated into high numbers that then are injected through precision guidance, directly into the injured tissues. These MSC’s then secrete bioactive factors that can change the microenvironment within the joint and tissues, thus harnessing your body’s own cells to facilitate in the healing process.
