SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) - Crews in Encinitas worked to dismantle a wooden sailboat that ran aground early Monday morning.

The sailboat lost power early Monday while the owner was heading to Shelter Island. The owner does not have enough money to salvage the boat so he walked away.

The city has hired a contractor to remove the boat from a lower parking lot at Moonlight Beach. The removal process is expected to take a few days. The city will attempt to recover some costs once the boat has been towed away.

The 35-foot sailing vessel was built in 1964 in Hong Kong.
