Lock downs at 3 Chollas View schools lifted, suspect in custody

SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) — A pursuit that ended in a crash led to three schools in lockdown Tuesday afternoon in Chollas View.

A man being pulled over for speeding took off, crashed his vehicle and then ran into Gompers Preparatory Academy.

From a helicopter, San Diego Sheriff’s deputies called for the chase suspect to come out of the school.

“When he was running around campus we were already on lockdown mode," said Gompers Academy's Jenny Parsons.

Deputies were first alerted to suspect 44-year-old Raheem Jackson in Chollas View around 1 p.m. when he was reportedly behind the wheel, driving erratically on the SR-94.

“[A sheriff] saw a vehicle driving recklessly at a high rate of speed in and out of traffic, he attempted to do a vehicle stop on that vehicle and the vehicle evaded and fled from him," said San Diego Sheriff's Department Sergeant Kelly Moody.

Deputies say Jackson crashed into brush while exiting Euclid Avenue and took off on foot running to Gompers Preparatory Academy in the 1000 block of 47th street.

“We did have them on lockdown once we saw him on the school grounds on the football field," said Sgt. Moody.

The campus locked down along with Millennial Tech Middle School and Horton Elementary School, but Jackson jumped his way inside Gompers.

“He climbed on one of our taller fences in the back of campus, so the campus was completely secure, but he found a way to jump over," said Parsons.

After an extended search from numerous law enforcement agencies - from up above and on the ground -  they finally spotted Jackson hiding in the girls' bathroom and arrested him without a fight.

“Everyone was secure," said Parsons. "We reassured students, and once the lockdown was lifted, we kept in contact with parents.”

Jackson was arrested for felony evading, reckless driving and driving on a suspended license

Court records show Jackson has eight felony arrests dating back to 1999 in San Diego County alone.
