Surfrider Foundation pushes for "butts" off beaches

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - For a local environmental organization, there are no if and or "butts" when it comes to properly discarding the ends of cigarettes.

The San Diego Surfrider Foundation held their 14th annual Hold on to your Butt awareness day on Sunday in Mission Beach.

The goal is to educate smokers on how to properly discard cigarettes so they don't end up on our local beaches or polluting the water. Cigarette butts are the number one piece of trash found on beaches across the world.
